ELEMENTS X: A Hip Hop Dance Competition

COMPETING TEAMS:

8 Count Dance Crew formed at the Local YMCA in Worcester, MA. Team leader and choreographer Valerie Dupree formed the group in March of 2007 and it has been going strong ever since! Our group is a melting pot of dancers that range from Modern to Tap with one common passion Hip Hop! With our unique swag style we hope to put our stamp in Hip Hop History! (see video)

EPIC Motion (Energy and Passion Inspiring Collaborative Motion) is a dance company made up of people who came together out of a common desire to express themselves on a larger stage outside the dance studio. Its members embrace individuality which is one of the driving forces behind their innovative movement. The team, while continually learning, promotes and teaches dance in multiple forms--hip-hop, contemporary, popping, locking, breaking, jazz, and etc.

By creating a positive and challenging learning environment, we strive for originality, progress in technique, and honest artistic expression. Through frequent practices, performances, competitions and workshops we hope to advance beyond any of our limits as dancers while growing together as a family. Ultimately, we want to use our Energy and Passion to Inspire Collaborative Motion within our dance family and community. (see video)

Kinematix was officially established and recognized in 2006. As Northeastern University's Urban Dance Troupe, the purpose of Kinematix is to provide a channel for students to express themselves through urban culture- particularly through the interest of street dance. Kinematix brings together the styles of popping and funk, hip hop, reggae and street-jazz (as well as a fusion of many other styles) that constitute the art of street dance. Kinematix encourages performances, enriches the talents of its members, promotes social interaction, and strives to bring awareness of the urban culture to its audience. (see video)

Point Blank, reigning from Philadelphia and established in June 2008. A versatile group of different personalities and styles: hip-hop choreo, breaking, house, contemporary, popping, but especially known for their spontaneous comedic-flare. Point Blank has performed with many of the crews from MTV's - America's Best Dance Crew and eagerly awaits their next opportunity to share their creative talents. (see video)

Project D started out as a group of young talented friends from all different parts of New Jersey. Performers were needed for the Annual Semi-Formal for Ramapo College of New Jersey; therefore, a number of volunteers, organized by Bernie Armendi, came together out of love of dance for the event. The name Project D was discovered by the influence of a Japanese anime that was dedicated to the growing import car culture. The letter "D" represents dedication and devotion to dance. Since the beginning Project D has grown into an incredible family of young inspired dancers and continues to influence young individuals throughout the Tri-State area.

The Project D mission is to motivate and actuate all to embrace their potential, as well as to foster the infinite growth and improvement of its dancers - to teach individuals to move as one & to pass inspiration to the next generation. (see video)

MIT Ridonkulous is a group devoted to building and nurturing the relationship between the dance networks of MIT and the greater Boston area, as well as providing a creative outlet for the MIT community.

Ridonkulous was originally founded in Spring 2005 by a group of committed dancers at MIT. In Fall 2006, a group of us got Ridonkulous started up again to bring dance at MIT to other schools and venues in the Greater Boston area.

Past performances have included charity events and college shows at BU, Babson, and Wellesley, as well as MIT events such as Comedy Collage and AXO Lip Sync.

We look forward to networking and groovin with other dancers. Most importantly we are here to have fun and to dance. (see video)

Spirit of Color (SOC) is a performing arts group affiliated with Tufts University. SOC is dedicated to exploring and expanding many styles of dance such as hip hop, contemporary, jazz, and Soca. A student-run group, Spirit of Color choreographs in addition to performing. At the end of every semester, SOC puts on a show that not only showcases the choreography of its dancers but also the work of different performing arts groups at Tufts and the greater Boston area. SOC constantly pushes the boundaries with original, creative pieces, and its dancers are always working to improve technique and style. Spirit of Color looks to unite the dance community in Boston and expand the horizons of creative movement. (see video)

Static Noyze Dance Company was founded to create innovative and stimulating theatrical performances for all audiences.Since its inception, Static Noyze Dance Company's credits have included performances at The Carnival - Choreographers Ball, Rainbow Tribe The Dance Company's Tribe Vibe III, as well as many other performances around the New England area. The company is also actively instructing classes and workshops throughout the greater Boston area, collaborating with institutions such as Boston University, Dance Across the City, Origination Dance Company, and many more. Static Noyze prides itself in its dedication to the community. The company contributes through collaborative workshops, showcases, as well as other events, and is always looking to form partnerships with organizations that share its dedication to the community and passion for dance. Synergy Hip Hop Dance Company was started in the fall of 2004. Synergy first started off as a Boston College exclusive on-campus group, but now performs and competes at various venues across Boston and the East Coast. Currently Synergy is entering its 6th year and thankful for all the love and exposure the crew has received since its establishment. (see video)

Founded in the Spring of 2005, Unofficial Project is Boston University's premier Asian hip-hop dance troupe. Combining elements of Asian and American hip hop culture, we hope to promote the similarities and link between the two genres. Since its debut at Vibes' 4th annual show, Unofficial Project has been consistently performing at numerous shows on Boston University's campus as well as other colleges in the New England area. Vibes, founded in 2000, is the only all-female hip-hop dance group at Boston University. Comprised of 16 vibrant performers with diverse dance backgrounds, the girls strive to take urban dance to a higher level through their choreography, energy, attitude, and theatrical stage presence. Established by Juan Zapata with the view of creating a creatively free, talented and professional dance company, World Class Dancers came together on August 26th, 2007 at the Rock Church in Queens. The start of World Class Dancers was also the start of a strong and unique collaboration between New York and Dublin. A Partnership of promotion, support and skill sharing.

WCD started off with a few interested people and has since grown into a solid group of 50+ very dedicated dancers with a variety of inspirations and skills. Talent and Ideas are shared, Magic is made and a truly breath taking performances follow times and time again. What acts as the glue to such a succesful group is the determination, drive and the ambition that ignites within the heart of each dancer, the passion and focus in achieving and becoming their dream and the professionalism and respect that carries them.

In 2 years, WCD has made a mark on New York City with several signature performances and a growing fan base. The dream is being chased, not the competition. (see video)
